Understanding Content ID Claims
Best Practices for Creators
What is Content ID?
When you upload a video to YouTube that includes music, YouTube’s system might automatically recognize the music and place a Content ID claim. This is just YouTube’s way of making sure that the right people get credit for their music. Don’t worry, though—even with licensed songs, these claims can pop up.

How to Deal with a Content ID Claim
Here’s what you can do if you get one of these claims:
1. Dispute the Claim: Click on the ‘Dispute’ option that comes with the claim. You’ll be able to explain why you have the right to use the music.
2. Provide Proof: Show your music license. You should find your license in the ‘My Orders’ section of your account.
3. Wait a Bit: Claims are usually sorted out within 24 hours after you dispute them.
4. Need Help? If the claim isn’t cleared in a day, feel free to send an email to mymusicalwanderings[at]gmail.com. We’re here to help.
